Saturna Island Winery

This exciting tour combines the thrill of a west coast boating adventure with a visit to one of BC's most unique vineyards and winery. After enjoying a one hour breathtaking scenic tour of Haro Strait the year round home of the Dall's Porpoise. You will disembark on Saturna Island, the second largest and least populated Gulf Island.

vineyardOnce on the island, which is home to a protected Peregrine Falcon nesting site, you will have the pleasure of experiencing a unique vineyard and fully operational winery. Nestled between the Pacific ocean and a massive sandstone and granite cliff face, Saturna Island Vineyards is a great way to witness the ambitious endeavours of local island residents.

Following your excursion throughout the vineyard and winery you will once again enjoy the scenic waterways of Vancouver Island as Ocean Ecoventures transports you back to Cowichan Bay. Winner of the "Best Riesling in Canada" award in 1999 at the All Canadian Wine Championships, Saturna Island Vineyards grows specific grape varieties that are suitable for our Mediterranean-type climate. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Muscat, and Pinot Gris are just a few of the varieties to be found at this quaint island vineyard.

Saturna Island Vineyards, in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and the Islands Trust, is committed to ensuring that their enterprise does not threaten the survival of the Peregrine Falcons who nest in a cave atop the huge cliff that overlooks the vineyards. This environmentally aware company has an agreement with the Nature Conservancy of Canada to dedicate a buffer zone between the vineyards and nesting site. Other efforts by Saturna Island Vineyards include their donation of both manpower and equipment to local projects that restock salmon streams with salmon eggs and fingerlings.

While at the vineyard, take a tour and check out the Saturna Island Vineyards Wine Shop and Bistro, where you can sample selected wines and enjoy a light lunch. This unique tour is recommended for those who want to witness the natural beauty of the southern Gulf Islands while experiencing one of the region's most fascinating commercial ventures.
