[2007-05-05] Whale Watching

We have been out on the water a fair amount lately. We have had encounters with J Pod as well as quite a few Grey Gray Whales. We have tours departing daily.

[2007-05-05] New Calf in J Pod

We have a new calf in J Pod. He or She was born about 4 days ago. J 16 Slick is the mom. This is great news and it is the first birth in 2 years for J Pod.

[2007-03-26] New Orca Calf in L Pod

Great News!!! K and L Pod have been sighted off Monterey Bay California and L Pod has a new calf. Center for Whale Research estimates that the birth of L 109 took place between late October and early 2007. K and L Pod have been spending alot of time off California this winter feeding on salmon.

[2007-03-25] J Pod Returns To Our Waters

J Pod(one of our Southern Resident Pods)showed up about 30 minutes away from our office today. Nice to see them back in our waters again. They were first picked up on the water by Ken Balcomb of the Center for Whale Research just after noon in Haro Strait just south of Turn Point.

[2007-03-21] Spring Gear up and Sightings

We are gearing up for the spring season. We will be offering whale watching tours starting April 6th. There have been quite a few sightings of Transient Orcas and Grey Whales recently. A week ago J pod made an appearance and spent a few days in the area.

[2006-06-28] Whale Watching

Today we picked up J Pod with a few L Pod Whales off the westside of San Juan Island. They were taking it pretty easy for the afternoon. A few lazy spyhops and a distant breach. The seas were calm and the sun was warm. All in all an excellent trip, with excellent company. Thank you Sandra and Urs it was one of the best days so far this year.

[2006-06-26] Whale Watching

Hot Hot Hot. Today was beautiful. We spent a balmy afternoon with 25 Orca Whales 25 minutes from the office. We met up with J Pod and one L Pod whale(L57 Faith) at Turn Point. The whales were grouped up and were moving slowly north. We saw a few spyhops and tail lobbing and alot of resting. The Southern Resident Orca Whales have been traveling about 100 kilometres a day no wonder they need some resting periods. We saw a few lazy Harbour Seals and the always active Dalls Porpoises.

[2006-06-18] Whale Watching

Great Day on the water this afternoon. We met up with J Pod(24 Orca Whales)at Turn Point just as they rounded the point they put on a spectacular show. Lots of multiple breaching, spyhops and some highspeed porpoising. The weather was great and the seas were calm. It was nice to have J Pod a little closer today; for the last few days they have been an hour away while today it took 25 minutes to get to the whales. Another great day on the water in the new boat watching whales.

[2006-05-31] Whale Watching Eco Tour

We had a great afternoon with J Pod(24 Orca Whales) today. There was quite a bit of activity. Lots of tail lobbing and breaching. We got up close and personal with Ruffles the largest Orca Whale in J Pod. There was alot of other animals out feeding today. Stellar Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, and Dall's Porpoises. Today was the first trip in our new boat "Neptune". She runs beautifully!!

[2004-08-29] Whale Watching Eco Tours

We have had a very busy couple of weeks. Yesterday we had a Grey Whale sighting and spent a good hour viewing him off Victoria with three very close passes. We were out with 7 Transient Orca Whales last week. We watched they forage for about two hours. In that time they managed to kill and eat two Dall's Porpoises and a Harbour Seal. It doesn't get anymore raw than that!!!! The Residents Orca Whales are fish eaters while Transient Orca Whales eat Seals, Porpoises, Sea Lions and other Whales. Today the Super Pod(88 Orca Whales) is back in our waters after being gone for three days.
